Rick Sullivan - Operating Member

In June 2008, Rick Sullivan retired as Chairman and CEO from McBride & Son Companies after a 35-year career that built McBride into the #1 home building company in the state of Missouri and a Top 20-largest privately-owned home building company in the United States.

​

During his career at McBride, annual revenues grew from $3 million to over $630 million. He stimulated the incredible growth of the company by expanding the firm's reputation for quality residential neighborhoods and as a provider of quality carpentry, foundations, flatwork, roofing, and drywall to contractors and developers throughout the Midwest.  He was instrumental in the company's expansion to Atlanta, Chicago, Indianapolis, Kansas City and Louisville. He served as President and CEO from 1991 until 2008.  He and a group of key employees led the purchase of McBride & Son Companies from the McBride family in 1988.  In 1976, he joined the accounting firm of Rubin, Brown, Gornstein & Co., LLP and, in late 1978, rejoined McBride & Son as Vice President.

Rick served as CEO of the Special Administrative Board of the St. Louis Public Schools from 2007 to 2019. He was appointed in June 2007 by Governor Matt Blunt.  He headed the three-person board charged with the financial and academic turnaround of the St. Louis Public Schools with responsibility for 26,000 students and a budget of $290 million.  Rick led the development of a comprehensive long-range plan, secured the installation of a top-notch superintendent, implemented a plan to close seventeen non-performing schools, and worked to create a $100 million budget surplus.  The St. Louis Public Schools earned full academic accreditation in 2017.

Mr. Sullivan graduated from Rockhurst University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.  He earned his CPA Certification in 1978.

Douglas S. Brown - Member

Douglas S. Brown spent nearly 30 years between joining Enterprise Rent a Car as employee 13 and retiring at age 50 as President of Enterprise Fleets, a number of subsidiaries and Executive Vice President of the parent family company.

 

Since retiring from Enterprise, Doug has owned, partnered with, or consulted for ASPEQ, Corporate Creations, Environmental Management; Jupiter Medical Center, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, McBride & Son Homes, MyClinic Jupiter, Paric Construction, Peak Technical Staffing, STRAQR Investment Funds, Tampa General Hospital, Waterway Wash and Winghaven.

 

Doug has also been highly recognized by Ladue Horton Watkins High School, Saint Louis University, and a leading Industry Magazine as one of the 25 Most Influential Auto Fleet People of the 20th Century.

Kurt Hunter - Operating Member

In 2007,  Mr. Hunter began acquiring distressed, mismanaged, and under- capitalized multi-family investment properties in the St. Louis, Missouri area.  While his personal apartment properties have all been sold, the experience has proven invaluable while assessing opportunities for STRAQR.  

​

Prior to joining Strategic Advisors in February 2009, Kurt managed purchasing and planning at the corporate offices of May Department Stores and subsequently Federated Department Stores from 2001-2008.  His departments produced revenue ranging from $7 million to $20 million annually.

​

Mr. Hunter is currently a member of the St. Charles County / Chesterfield advisory board of Central Bank of St. Louis, has been a member of the St. Louis Chapter of Entrepreneur's Organization (EO) since 2018 and was a board member of Dutchtown South Community Corporation for four years.

​

Kurt holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.  He earned his Master of Business Administration from Saint Louis University in 2009.  He has been married to his wife Jennifer for 20 years, and they have two sons.

L.B. Eckelkamp, Jr. - Member

L. B. ECKELKAMP, JR. is Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Bank of Washington and has held that position for 38 years. He is also Chairman and President of Cardinal Bancorp and Cardinal Bancorp II, which own Citizens National Bank of Greater St. Louis and the United Bank of Union, respectively.

​

L.B. is President or Managing Member of numerous other family-owned businesses including Eckelkamp Office Center, Inc., Eckelkamp Developments, LLC, Diamond Enterprises, LLC and Eckelkamp Enterprises, LLC. He is also a founding partner of the law firm Eckelkamp Kuenzel LLP.

​

Mr. Eckelkamp is a National Board Member of the Boy Scouts of America, Past Chairman of the Board and President of the Greater St. Louis Area Council Boy Scouts of America and past Member of the Missouri Development Finance Board. He is a past member of the Board of Trustees of Saint Louis University, having served as Trustee for 17 years. He is a member of the Regional Business Council of which he is Past Chairman. He is Trustee Emeritus of the Missouri Botanical Garden. He is a past Trustee of the Papal Foundation and past President of Legatus of St. Louis. He is a Member of the Washington Elks Club and Washington Rotary Club and is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He is a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre, a Knight of Malta, a former Member of the Young Presidents Organization and currently a Member of YPO Gold and the Chief Executives Organization.

L.B. has a BBA in Finance from the University of Notre Dame and a JD from the University of Missouri Law School. He is married to Bonnie Jean Eckelkamp, and they have two adult children and seven grandchildren.

Kenneth Suelthaus - Member

Kenneth Suelthaus is a Senior Partner of Polsinelli PC, a national law firm.  Ken has had a long and varied law practice career.  This has included the representation of businesses and individuals in a multitude of complex transactions.  He is the recipient of the Missouri Bar President’s Award and the Missouri Lawyer’s Media ICON Award.  Ken has been included in Best Lawyers in America for many years in a number of business related categories.

​

Ken’s civic and charitable activities include serving as Chairman of the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital and as a member of the Board of Directors of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.  He also served as a member of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.

​

Ken has an engineering degree from the University of Michigan and was Editor-in-Chief of the Missouri Law Review while in law school. 

​

Ken and his wife live in St. Louis County, Missouri as do their children and grandchildren.
